to stay in at&t or not...

Sprint-vs-atnt-tmobile1-550x180

To some of you it has been obvious from reading my messages online that I been looking into Android and even another carrier besides AT&T for the future. This doesn't have to do with me disliking AT&T. But More with their limitation of Data and such. Another issue and this is iPhone specific is that in Puerto Rico they don't insure the iPhones, you have your Apple 1YR warranty and that's it. Which hasn't been an issue before but for example my previous iPhone 3GS had an issue with a button but luckily it was replaced before the warranty expired. If that had happened after warranty expired I would had been in a real pickle, luckily it didn't come to that. To put it lightly if you have an iPhone in Puerto Rico, you're just waiting to be screwed. Some might say you just need to take care of your phone more, but everyone that knows me, knows that i take care of these devices more than anything.

So with the possible buy of TMo by AT&T I would be considering Sprint as a future service provider. I'm not happy at their current lack of 4G on the island, but that could soon change in the future, and the plans being offered to me are good offers. There is also the issue with the Data, if i want to tether my iPhone I have to lose my Unlimited plan which is something I find totally unfair and Sprint offers Unlimited Data which indeed does lure me. With that being said i'm being reluctant to leave AT&T because they're currently offering HSPA+(Fake 4G) which is somewhat better than the 3G speeds I'm getting now with the iPhone 4 and if i get a 4G device it may be an improvement. The other issue is that my wife loves her iPhone. She is addicted to GodFinger, and there is none of that on Android yet. So i may make the change first and lure her in or just get an at&t android phone, root it, and leave her on iPhone.

My big issue with iPhone always comes back to Insurance and Warranty (at least here in Puerto Rico). There is a tendency with iPhone buttons to give out with issue. It has happened to me and now is happening to my wife's iPhone, which at&t won't replace unless it gets worse and it may be out of warranty by then. And android phones are getting better and I will keep looking at the alternative. This will be something that will be on going for me until I decide what to do...
